Otto Győr
Otto (Atha) from the kindred Győr ((ハンガリー語:Győr nembeli Ottó or Atha); died after 1066) was a Hungarian noble, who served as palatine ((ラテン語:palatinus)) in 1066, during the reign of Solomon, King of Hungary.〔Zsoldos 2011, p. 15.〕 He was the ancestor of the ''gens'' Győr, which flourished until the 17th century.〔Markó 2006, p. 229.〕 His father was Győr.〔Zsoldos 2011, p. 340.〕 Otto functioned as ispán ((ラテン語:comes)) of Somogy County in 1061.〔Zsoldos 2011, p. 191.〕 During that time he founded the Zselicszentjakab Abbey, a Benedictine monastery at Zselicszentjakab in Somogy County.〔Berend, Laszlovszky & Szakács 2007, p. 354.〕 The monastery was dedicated to the Apostle Saint James the Great.〔Csóka 1994, p. 749.〕 The deed of the foundation of the monastery is the first extant charter issued by a nobleman in the Kingdom of Hungary.〔Engel 2001, p. 39.〕 Both King Solomon, whom Otto supported, and Duke Géza were, in 1065 or 1066, present at the consecration.〔Engel 2001, p. 44.〕 Otto had no legitimiate son, but took care of his wife and adopted child. However he excluded them from inheritance of the monastery and entrusted the decision to the king. Later, the patron of the Zselicszentjakab Abbey was the Szentgyörgyi family.〔 ==References==
